Painting and drawing
I create artworks in a style that was once described as “sort of realism, but also not”. I feel this is an accurate description of my style as I do enjoy creating a realistic image but with the flexibility to alter colours, soften detail or adjust a composition. Much of my artistic inspiration comes from the natural world, anything from; a quality of light, the cast of a shadow, a rippling reflection, a colour combination, or a dramatic landscape. I work primarily in acrylic paint and water soluble oil paint to capture a moment of natural wonder. Though most of my larger works are done using paint I also create smaller works using ink, coloured pencil, or graphite pencils. I choose the best scale and medium based on what techniques would suit the subject best. My work is focused on the details, so that an image may be striking at a glance but reveal more upon closer inspection. Often I find it’s the imperfection details that can make an image perfect.
