Derek McLarty
Painting
Derek McLarty is a Canadian artist known for his contemplative paintings of urban spaces and everyday objects. He uses realism to give these unremarkable spaces and objects a sense of familiarity, a sense of calm, and a welcome pause for the viewer. Throughout his artistic career, Derek has shown a preference for subject matter such as deserted halls, stairwells, offices and classrooms. More recently, with the inclusion of humans into his compositions, his works have gained a new layer of meaning. His works resided in personal collections across North American and are in the corporate collections of Scotiabank and Emco. His work has also been used by the City of London and St. Joseph’s Hospital.
