Catherine Morrisey

Artist’s bio

The woods, river and garden behind Catherine’s studio provide subject matter for oil paintings. Her studio is in an old auto body shop. The original paint room for painting cars has large doors that open east to west. The breezes flow through, clearing the turpentine fumes and carrying bird calls and conversations from the bikepath. A yellow kayak leans up against the wall handy for river paddles.

Sometimes a rabbit will look in the door. Sometimes a bird will fly in one door from the woods and out the other side to the garden. Sometimes a toad will hop in and out again.

Catherine’s paintings adapt traditions of Chinese painting. Her colour is inspired by Bonnard and Soutine. Canadian Group of Seven are a continuing inspiration. Her images explore the stories of this place.

Kayaking on the Thames River presents symmetrical reflections that give a feeling of peaceful timelessness. Symmetry river reflections offer continuous inspiration.

Catherine’s paintings are shown regularly at Westland Gallery. Her paintings have been exhibited in McIntosh Gallery, and Museum London, TAP (The Arts Project) and Forest City Gallery. Her paintings are in private collections in Canada, U.S.A., and France.
