Catherine Morrisey paints in oil on canvas expressing love for the woods and river outside her studio door, the gardens, the bike path and the village nearby. She kayaks along the south Thames River in London’s old SoHo area to view the inner city’s geese, herons, and turtles who live in a secret habitat of water lilies. In the evening, the river mirrors the woods and sky creating perfect upside down reflections. These symmetrical visions inspire paintings rendered in loose brush strokes using a combination of raw sienna earth tones and bright primary colours Summer is a time for painting directly from the landscape, but winter prompts more imaginary remembered images. Catherine draws inspiration from painters Bonnard, Monet, and Milne.
